Paddy Power backs Daniel Craig to continue as Bond

Screen Shot 2016-09-05 at 22.24.52With US showbiz columns reporting that Sony executives are preparing to offer Daniel Craig $150 million (£115 million) to film back-to-back Bond Movies, Paddy Power has priced the 48-year old actor at 8/11 to continue as the MI6 secret agent.

The rumours of Sony’s mammoth offer to keep Craig as Bond has seen Paddy Power push down younger hopefuls, pricing former market favourite James Norton at 5/2 (previous: 9/4) alongside Irish actor Aidan Turner.

Paddy Power’s market sees Jack Huston as 6/1 third favourite, with former early market leaders Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston now priced at 14/1 outsiders.

Sony’s offer to Craig has surprised movie insiders. Concluding his final contract role as Bond in the movie ‘Spectre,’ Craig stated that he would rather ‘slash his wrists’ than commit to another Bond film, telling news sources that he was ‘done’ with the character.

The James Bond movie franchise has become a lead vehicle for Sony Pictures as ‘Spectre’ generated circa $900 million in the 2015 global box office. The studio is reported to want to keep its Bond movies ‘familiar’ to cinema audiences amid growing blockbuster competition from Disney and Universal Studios.

For months news has circulated regarding Daniel Craig’s replacement however, it appears that Sony executives maybe not be keen on an unknown quantity driving its lead vehicle
