bet365 suffers Romania suspension appeal rejection

romaniaRomania’s Bucharest Appeals Court has rejected bet365’s request to revoke its temporary online gambling suspension by the Romanian National Gambling Office (ONJN).

In October bet365 had moved to contest the suspension of its licensing, having been placed on the Romanian online gambling blacklist by ONJN.

bet365 management were surprised by the actions taken by ONJN, stating that the company had acted accordingly with pre-licensing concessions ahead of Romania regulating its online gambling market.

ONJN was not convinced though and in December, bet365 moved to file a criminal complaint accusing ONJN of “discriminatory and corrupt practices,” stating that its suspension against its services were motivated to aid local operators

To date the ONJN has issued 18 licenses under its new gambling framework. European operators that have been awarded licenses include Betfair, Amaya Inc, Fortuna, Sportingbet and Unibet.
