Bankers take holiday as sun shines on bookies – AccaTracker data

gomisIt’s been a bumper Bank Holiday weekend for bookmakers on the football front, with a series of unexpected results confounding people’s bankers in their accumulator bets.

According to data from AccaTracker, the mobile app developed by Team FA that keeps track of user’s bets, only three of the ten most popular matches included in multiple bets this weekend ended in home wins, with five away wins tearing up the form book.

While the most popular match was Man City v Watford, where the Citizens efficiently dispatched the Hornets, the second and third matches were Chelsea’s home tie against Crystal Palace and Liverpool’s match against West Ham United at Anfield.

These two away wins caught the majority of punters totally cold, and left a big smile on the faces in the bookmaker trading rooms. In fact the most popular 21 matches for multiple bets over the weekend only saw five home wins, one of which was Swansea’s impressive takedown of Manchester United.

Team FA Marketing Director Tim Pindar commented: “It’s been an undoubtedly good weekend for bookmakers with only Manchester City, and to a lesser extent Arsenal, meeting footy accumulator expectations.

“While Man United’s defeat at Swansea will have helped, Sunday matches are far less popular for inclusion in accumulators. The Red Devils’ current form would probably have also turned off punters looking for a reliable banker to underpin their bets.”
