Amaya Inc has announced its entry into the US daily fantasy sports market (DFS) by confirming the acquisition of real money operator Victiv for an undisclosed sum. Victiv is set to re-brand as StarsDraft ahead of its planned US launch
In March Amaya had outlined that it would look to enter the US DFS market ahead of the start of the 2015/2016 NFL season. Amaya governance noted that it viewed significant cross-over potential between its former US poker client base and the DFS market.
The Toronto listed operator has purchased Victiv services and operations outright. Amaya informed that its new DFS business division would be operated by Victiv management.
Commenting on the acquisition Amaya CEO David Baazov said
“We have taken the strategic decision to enter the daily fantasy sports category and are pursuing parallel tracks of internal development and strategic acquisition,”
“We expect to provide more details on this strategy in the second half of 2015 but see a clear crossover from poker and daily fantasy sports.”.
Based in Austin, Texas, Victiv is known for its slick, easy-to-use web-based interface and promotions geared towards players on a budget
