UK focused online sports betting operator 666Bet has had its online gambling license temporarily suspended by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). This weekend 666Bet and its subsidiary online casino brand Metro Play placed their websites ‘Under Maintenance’, as the UKGC is set to carry out a review of the firm’s operations.
The UKGC issued the below statement with regards to 666Bet and its subsidiary UK operations
“The Commission has decided to commence a review because it suspects that Metro Play Limited (the Licensee) is unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities (section 120(1)(d) of the Act) and considers it appropriate to suspend the licence with immediate effect pending the conclusion of the review.”
“In accordance with section 118(4)(c) of the Act the Licensee is authorised to settle any outstanding winning bets that it has accepted in reliance on the above operating licence and return any outstanding balances to customers”.
666Bet entered the UK online sports betting market in May 2014 with a number of high visibility marketing campaigns. The bookmaker is currently betting partner of Premier League football clubs Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion.
In September 2014 the bookmaker acquired white label casino brand Metro Play from UK media publisher DMG for an undisclosed fee, as 666Bet looked to ramp up its UK online casino presence.
666Bet management have as yet not made an official comment on the temporary closure of operations pending its UKGC investigation.
