Gibraltar fire disrupts betting services

Igaming operators saw their online services disrupted on Easter Sunday after an explosion hit the main Gibraltar power station. The explosion was caused due to a waterport power station catching fire due to mechanical failure.

Gibraltar based fire services spent hours trying to control the fire from spreading further. The impact of the explosion left many companies and Gibraltar residents without access to electricity.

The incident  saw a further impact on Gibtelecom services which had to suspend its online servers, thus interrupting online services and access to igaming operators based in the region. Igaming operators which saw their services interrupted included – BetVictor, William Hill and Ladbrokes.

Gibraltar authorities have stated that no individuals have been harmed by the incident. It is unsure whether the fire will continue to disrupt online gaming services for igaming operators based in the region.

Ladbrokes igaming operations released a statement to customers “We apologise to the customers who were affected by the loss of some of those services on Sunday afternoon and have been working hard and successfully to restore these. None of our staff were affected by the incident, and no customer data was compromised during that period.”
