Unibet PLC finds itself in hot water, due to their sponsorship of the upcoming Stockholm Marathon, on the 31st of May.
The operator’s sponsorship of the running event, has fallen foul of Swedish gambling regulator Lotteriinspektinen, who claim that the igaming operator has breached Swedish advertising regulations in their sponsorship of the event.
Lotteriinspektinen have threatened the Swedish listed igaming operator with a fine of SEK2 million (£200,000)
Unibet had struck the sponsorship deal with race organiser Stockholm Marathon Group, the deal would see the operators brand displayed on the marathon’s race course and runners badges. Furthermore Unibet would support the event with special betting markets and charitable donations on the operators behalf.
Stockholm Marathon and Unibet have been given until April 18th to submit an appeal to the accusations, after which Lotteriinspektinen will pursue its case against the operator’s sponsorship of the marathon
