Flutter confirms NED departures of Cawley and Byng-Thorne

The board of Flutter Entertainment Plc has confirmed that Michael Cawley has decided to end his nine-year tenure as a non-executive director of the FTSE100 gambling group.

Having previously served as the Chief Executive of Ryanair, Cawley has been a corporate advisor of Flutter since 2013, providing  guidance on the business’ transformative mergers with Paddy Power in 2018/2019 and The Stars Group Inc in 2020.

Updating investors, Flutter confirmed that Cawley had decided not to seek re-election at the firm’s Annual General Meeting scheduled on 28 April. Holly Keller Koeppel will replace Cawley as Chair of the Audit Committee.

Meanwhile Zillah Byng-Thorne has committed to serving a further year as a non-executive director, as she plans to step down from Flutter  governance duties before the 2023 General Meeting.

Byng-Thorne, who is currently the CEO of LSE publishing group Future Plc, has been a non-executive director of Flutter since 2016.

Flutter announced that Dave Lazzarato will replace Byng-Thorne as Chair of the Risk and Sustainability Committee, in which Byng-Thorne will be retained as an advisor of the firm’s sustainability directives.

Gary McGann, Chair of Flutter, commented: “I wish to take this opportunity to thank Michael and Zillah for their exceptional contribution to the Board over the past nine years.  We wish Michael well for the future and I look forward to continuing to work with Zillah during her remaining term as a Director.”
