Kao is believed to be the mastermind of the gambling ring, and has admitted to online gambling but not to electi0n betting.

The presidential and legislative elections in Taiwan are fast approaching and, as such, the CIB stated that it started a crackdown on underground gambling websites to try to ensure that no rogue elements try to influence the outcome of the elections.

The CIB said that it mobilized over 300 police officers on January 4th to raid 55 locations around the country.

According to a local newspaper report, the online gambling ring was operating via a cloud system set up in Subic Bay in the Philippines.
