Former England and Newcastle United captain Alan Shearer has today signed a season-long deal with leading bookmaker Coral to become the company’s first-ever football ambassador.

The acclaimed former-footballer turned media-pundit, will write a weekly blog for Coral on the hot topics and big stories in football, as well as making personal appearances at Coral events and engaging in customer-facing social media activity.

“Alan Shearer is one of the finest footballers of his generation and this is quite simply the biggest football signing in Coral’s history”, said Simon Clare, Coral PR Director.

“The vast majority of Coral customers are football fans so it made perfect sense to go out and get one of the biggest and most respected names in the sport to work with us. Alan had a very committed, uncompromising style on the pitch and he won’t be pulling and punches in his weekly blog either so it should be a not-to-be-missed read”, added Clare.

Alan Shearer, said today, “I’m looking forward to working with Coral and giving their football customers my thoughts and opinions on all aspects of what should be a fascinating and thrilling football season. It’s such a great sport and there’s never any shortage of controversy or major talking points so it’s going to be fun airing my views on a week by week basis through this blog.”

Coral will host the Alan Shearer Blog on the Coral news site, www.news.coral.co.uk, and will email the blog to all its customers each week.

Alan Shearer will join a strong portfolio of celebrity bloggers and pundits used by Coral including ex-footballer and Sky Sports broadcaster, Scott Minto, Sky Sports broadcaster David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd, top flat jockey Jamie Spencer, leading jump jockey Tom Scudamore.

The deal was brokered on behalf of Coral by Heavyweight Sport and on behalf of Alan Shearer by CAA sport and Mel Chappell.
