Mobile gaming firm raided by Indonesian police

gameloft-tankbattlesIndonesian police have raided the local branch of mobile gaming giant Gameloft after it was mistaken for an online gaming den by nearby residents.

A report on local news site Tribun Jogja said that police first entered the studio without a warrant and attempted to ‘force their way past security’ before returning with a warrant. Reports also state a policeman tussled with building security while attempting to enter without a warrant.

The story said that the studio’s employees were questioned regarding the types of prizes consumers earn for playing their games. It is believed the raid was the result of a misunderstanding on the part of authorities regarding what the game developer actually did.

Despite the raid, no charges were made on the game studio. Gameloft is best known for publishing numerous freemium and paymium mobile releases. For the first nine months of the year the firm has achieved sales of €167.0 million, although this is down 2% on the same period in 2013.
