ACMA banishes dozen of websites out of Australia

A total of 12 gambling websites have been ordered to cease operations in Australia after being found to be in violation of the country’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001 (IGA).

Zet Casino, Wazamba, Playzilla, Slots Palace, Nomini, Casinia, SG Casino, Fez Bet, Buran Casino, Spin Better, Golden Bet and Clash.gg are the online gambling providers that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigated and identified regulatory shortcomings with.

As a result of their prohibited or unlicensed activity, the regulator issued an order to Aussie internet service providers to block all access to these websites.

This brings the total number of cease requests over illegal online gambling issued by the ACMA since 2019 to 926.

The watchdog commented: “The ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it is unlikely to have important consumer protections. This means our laws can’t help if something goes wrong, like if the service provider withholds winnings.”

According to the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, all in-play betting on sports matches with a limited number of exceptions is prohibited.

The most recent operator to have been found in breach of the Act before the latest 12 listed was Best Bookies’ Price Pty Ltd, which was chased away from the Australian market by the AMCA for offering betting odds comparisons not covered under the IGA.
