Gibraltar-based online betting and gaming operator 888 has strengthened its international branding and marketing activities by incorporating the Portuguese Grand Prix into its sports sponsorship portfolio.
888 maintains a diverse presence in Portugal’s online gambling market – one of 60 sectors the firm operates in – offering a ‘well-regulated and safe gaming environment’ for bettors to enjoy slots, roulette and online entertainment games.

“In challenging times, we consider this a true sign of confidence for Portugal and a clear statement on its importance in international sports events. Above all at 888 we want to support and celebrate this moment with all Portuguese fans.”
Under the terms of the agreement, the event will be billed as the Grande Prémio 888, taking place between 16 and 18 April at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, with commercial rights held by Dorna Sports.
Pau Serracanta, Managing Director at Dorna Sports, added: “We are very happy to welcome 888 as title sponsor for the Portuguese Grand Prix and see the 888 name take top billing at one of the most spectacular tracks on the calendar. 888 is a well-known and respected name in the field and we’re very happy to welcome them back to MotoGP.”
In addition to the newly formed partnership with MotoGP, 888 maintains a range of sponsorship deals across a range of sports, including a training kit branding arrangement with EFL Championship club Cardiff City, as well as a recently signed agreement with Dublin-based League of Ireland club Shamrock Rovers.
The LSE-registered operator published its 2020 full year results last week, revealing a positive trading year despite the global headwinds of the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by a successful varied product range active in a number of regulated markets.
