History made as FansBet supports Shrewsbury safe standing

Last weekend with the help of UK sportsbook operator FansBet, Shrewsbury Town FC made history launching a safe standing area at the club’s all seater stadium.

FansBet sponsored the campaign which was led Shrewsbury Town’s fan group, the Supporters’ Parliament, who pushed the case for 555 railing seats at the Montgomery Waters Meadow Stadium.

Unfortunately for last season’s League One play-off finalists, the result didn’t go their way as despite numerous chance they were defeated by a goal to nil. However, the pioneering has been lauded by much of the football community, with many looking to follow in the footsteps of the Shropshire club and install safe standing.

Tom Lee FansBet Brand Manager emphasised to SBC: “For the FansBet team it is extremely satisfying to know we played a small but nonetheless integral role in the return of safe standing to an English stadium. The team at Shrewsbury Town FC combined with Roger Groves and Mike Davies of their Supporters’ Parliament have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with, something we envisage continuing in order to help them fulfil other aims and ideas in the coming months.

“The success at the Montgomery Waters Meadow is clear proof of FansBet’s commitment to working with supporter group, enabling them to achieve their ambitions.  Our growing list of Fan Partners at a diverse range of clubs is clear proof of the growth of the FansBet sharing model.”

Issuing a statement on the club’s website, Shrewsbury CEO Brian Caldwell, expressed great pride at the launch: “I thought everybody that was in the area seemed to enjoy it and it was a really good atmosphere. I think it’s something we can build on working closely again with the Supporters Parliament.

“I stood inside there myself on Saturday and it was really, really good. A great atmosphere and I think everybody thoroughly enjoyed it. It is part of the long term aim, people who want to stand can stand in a safe place but also help the atmosphere as well.

“I think with it being beside the family stand, what I want to achieve from that is people who maybe come with children or come with their parents that when they graduate to the next step when they come themselves, that will be the place they go.

“I’m sure it will be because that’s where the noise is coming from but I thought everybody in there was absolutely brilliant. It was a real party atmosphere.”
