Betway backing AJ to unify the heavyweight division

After successfully defending his World heavyweight titles on Saturday night, by stopping the admirably game Carlos Takam in 10 rounds, the speculation about what lies ahead for Britain’s Anthony Joshua has already begun.

Whilst the latest videos of Tyson Fury in training will fuel the imagination of British fight fans that a 2018 super fight is possible. It appears that AJ is on a mission to unify the division, with WBO champion, Joseph Parker his likely next foe.

Betway’s Alan Alger told SBC: “Though the Deontay Wilder fight is one that ‘has to happen’ according to Anthony Joshua, we think Joseph Parker is next on AJ’s hitlist at 6/4.

“The New Zealander is viewed as a slightly easier bout than the Wilder one, though Carlos Takam showed that there are certainly no walkovers at this level, and we think Joshua will take on Parker before moving on to Wilder.

“It’s 3/1 for Joshua to skip a shot at the WBO belt versus Parker and meet Wilder next, while a rematch with Dillian Whyte isn’t to be dismissed at 4/1.

“Though Wilder, who is expected to successfully defend his WBC title against Bermane Stiverne this weekend, looks more likely to take on Whyte before moving onto Joshua.

“At the bigger prices, David Haye and Tyson Fury are both 20/1 shots. The Fury bout faces a few obvious hurdles, while Haye is some way down the pecking order for Joshua. Yes it would be a big money fight, drawing big crowds, but AJ needs belts at this stage of his career not one off paydays.”
