The governance of European igaming operator Cherry AB has confirmed that ‘acting’ Chief Executive Anders Holmgren will take on full leadership duties of the firm with immediate effect.
Last January, Holmgren was promoted to the role of interim CEO following the surprise departure of incumbent Fredrik Burvall due to ‘family reasons’. Updating investors this morning Cherry AB governance has moved to place Holmgren as Cherry Group CEO.
The leadership appointment will see Holmgren relieved from his board member positions with Cherry AB and subsidiary Yggdrasil Holdings.
Rolf Åkerlind, Chairman of the Board, commented on the appointment of Holmgren as CEO “Anders Holmgren has, during his years as a Board member of Cherry AB, been a driving force for the company and possesses an excellent knowledge of the industry in which we operate. His experience working within large companies in the finance and gaming industries, as well as an entrepreneur, will give Cherry impetus to continue the company’s expansive development.”
An industry finance and leadership veteran, Anders Holmgren has served in various executive roles for Betsson AB (2000-2011). As a Cherry board member (2015-2017) Holmgren has also served as a key advisor for the firms ongoing growth strategy.
Holmgren commented on taking Cherry leadership: “I am looking forward to continuing to develop Cherry as a fast-growing company, as well as managing the strong positions Cherry holds across all its business areas. As a member of the Board of Directors of Cherry AB, I have had the benefit of observing this exciting company and all the development possibilities it holds. Cherry is one of the most complete gaming companies there is, and is well positioned to continue to develop and grow faster than the market.”
