With constant innovation occurring in the technology space, operators can often find it difficult to ensure that sportsbook technologies do not become outdated.
At this year’s ICE conference in February, SBC caught up with Betsson’s CEO, Jesper Svensson, who pointed out that it can often be difficult to maintain technological innovation.
He told SBC: “We are having very good momentum in our sportsbook now and with development. 2018 was a good year for us and now with 2019 its about keeping up that pace but from a product point of view.
“Betsson’s sportsbook has improved quite significantly over the past one or even two years. In many ways we were very much in a catching up phase. We are now getting to a point where we are also releasing things in the forefront which is a nice place to be, compared to where we were a few years ago.
“Now it’s all about keeping that momentum in the sportsbook and when we get that momentum, it’s also good to have it in-house so that’s where you can differentiate.”
Svensson found that the Stockholm-listed company had continued to build momentum year-on-year, and that trying to maintain continual progress can pose significant challenges for an operator.
He added: “The big challenge this year is to really keep the momentum that we are having in the business. 2018 was very good, significantly improved momentum versus 2017 we are going to keep going with that.
“From the major events that affect us so far this year, it’s the regulation in Sweden that came into effect on the 1st of January, something that we have been looking forward to for a very long time.
“That’s the difference versus last year. From a business point of view for us, it’s just to keep going in that direction that we are currently having.”
