Flutter top boy trader Joe Lee calls end on 12-year innings

Flutter Entertainment executive Joe Lee has announced that he has ended his “12-year innings” as an employee of the FTSE100 betting group.

Lee announced via LinkedIn that he had chosen to step down from his current role as Head of Paddy Power’s UK-&-Ireland unit, a position he had held since 2018, to take on new opportunities.

During his 12-year tenure at Flutter, Lee had served in a number of senior management roles covering Flutter brands’ sports trading strategy and sportsbook product development.

Lee joined Paddy Power in 2008 as US Sports Senior Trader, working in the firm’s Dublin headquarters.

Proving his skillset as a trader, Lee would be promoted across the firm’s ranks, charged with overseeing the development of the Paddy Power Betfair (PPB) international sportsbook portfolio.

This remit included optimising the trading capacities of Sportsbet Australia and FanDuel US to become their respective market-leading brands.

Of note, in 2016, Paddy Power appointed Lee as ‘Head of Trump Betting’, charged with overseeing the market pricing of a highly-volatile US Presidential Election – that saw bookmakers payout record political winnings on the shock result of Donald Trump’s victory.

Signing off from duties, Lee thanked colleagues and commented on the many transitions he had witnessed during his tenure at Flutter that saw the company become the sector’s most valued online business.

“The business transformation from what it was back in my initial Paddy Power days can only be described as immense, and I’m privileged to have been a little part of something so significant. I’ve learned so much along the way I’ve likely forgotten half of it – I’ll take that as a sign of a great place to work rather than old age!” – Lee remarked.

“I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of those colleagues I’ve interacted with throughout my time with the group be that in Europe, Australia or the US. People will always be the linchpin of any business and I’ve met some truly great ones all across Flutter.

“I’ll be taking time out to work on some personal projects and add to my list of Top 100 golf courses played, before embarking on my next challenge.”
