AgiproNews’ Italian View – Italy prepares for a summer of new faces

This April, the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli (ADM), the government body overseeing Italy’s gambling regulatory policy has published the list of new enterprises seeking to join the regulated Italian online gambling market.

From a sports betting standpoint, out of the 45 applicants seeking to qualify for Italian online gambling licences, the two stand-out operators are legacy online bookmaker Pinnacle and Malta-based casino operator Sogno di Tolosa.

Maltese enterprise Sogno di Tolosa will likely move to expand its Betn1 brand for the Italian market, which currently maintains a number of retail betting points within Southern Italy.

Italian punters will be keeping a close eye on low-margin bookmaker Pinnacle entering the market. One of oldest online sportsbooks, can Pinnacle shake-up Italy’s competing online betting pack, offering low market prices and new inventory such as esports.

Further industry operators that have applied to ADM’s licensing window, include Luckia Spain, online casino group Videoslots and Italian lottery giant Lottomatica seeking licences for new ventures.

Having closed its licensing application window on 19 March, ADM governance is currently reviewing final applicants. The governing body for Italian gambling is expected to grant its market concessions by the end of July, and up to September 2018.
