OPAP nets Gold Sponsorship of Greek Basketball

OPAP SA, the operator of the Greek national lottery and retail sportsbook franchises, has become the principal sponsor of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EEC).

At a press conference hosted at the Athens Olympic Gymnasium, OPAP was announced as the ‘Gold Sponsor’ of EEC Greek men’s and Women’s basketball teams.

The partnership will span a period of 3-years and will see OPAP support the Greek men’s first team competing in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup in the Philippines (22 September – 1 October).

In addition, OPAP becomes the principal partner of EEC as Greek teams begin their qualification journey to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralymic Games

Further to the partnership, OPAP management has collaborated with EEC counterparts to develop an ‘action plan’ promoting the social benefits of basketball as one of Greece’s most popular and followed sports.

The action plan will see OPAP help EEC promote women’s basketball, whilst working on further local directives to expand access to basketball pitches, facilities and grassroots training – benefitting all Greeks.

EEC underlined OPAP as the best partner to support Greek Basketball, whose “historic teams have won the European Championships in 1987 and 2005, whilst securing second place in the 2006 World Championships.”
