Continuing its planned European market expansion, US daily fantasy sports (DFS) operator DraftKings has launched its services in Germany.
The DFS operator enters the German sports market, through its recently secured Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) ‘Controlled Skill Games Licence’ which was granted to DraftKings operations this March.
Having officially launched its DFS services within the UK betting market in H1 2016, DraftKings executive teams have been researching further potential European markets to enter.
Led by Chief International Officer (CIO) Jeffery Haas, DraftKings governance has pointed to Germany as its next major market entry for a number of months. The operator details a strong following of US sports by German consumers, which is suitable with its current portfolio of games.
Last week Haas made DraftKings move official, stating to industry media :
“Germany is known for its passionate sports fans and we are pleased to welcome them to daily fantasy sports. Germans show a proclivity for American sports, particularly the NFL and NBA.
“Initial testing in Germany shows that our most popular sport has been the NBA, which is why we are opening our beta test to all German sports fans.”
