French state-owned betting operator Paris Mutuel Urbain (PMU) has confirmed an exclusive three-year partnership valued at €2 million with Irish SMS text betting services provider Onionsack (onionsack.eu).

The partnership will see PMU become the first French operator to integrate a live betting functions via text/SMS messages.

Waterford-based Onionsack has created a mobile platform which can interpret written bets placed by consumers via text or instant messenger services for its existing clients.

Onionsack clients include Ladbrokes, Betfred, Paddy Power, William Hill and Totepool. The company stated that the PMU deal represented a ‘major breakthrough’ for its services, as Onionsack had secured its first partnership outside of its core markets of the UK and Ireland.

PMU Deputy Chief Executive Alain Resplandy-Bernard stated that Onionsack had been selected as new partners following a review of the services the company had provided to major UK betting operators.

Onionsack Founder and CEO Jonathan Power was delighted to have secured the PMU deal, stating that his company would now focus on furthering connection capabilities between popular messaging devices and bookmaker clients.

“Onionsack is now working on extending the platform to include Facebook Messenger and Twitter, which will open up huge marketing opportunities for sports brands,”
