Fantasy managers navigate tricky Xmas period

The hectic Premier League Christmas schedule has swept over the nation once again, causing many a debate for fans and a plethora of selection headaches for managers.

That latter problem has also been affecting fantasy managers up and down the country, with the latest round of fixtures featuring a Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United double bill.

Despite a number of changes at the summit of SBC’s League of Legends, it is OPAP’s Constantinos Pinillos who has improved on his pre Christmas second place to leapfrog his way to the top.

Heung-Min Son, who played the full 90 minutes in Spurs’ game at Swansea City and at home to West Ham, top scored with 12 points, however, captain Harry Kane had an unusually quiet time, despite recording just one full game, on his way to three points (doubled to six).

Other notable inclusions are the goalscoring duo of Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, who recorded nine points to lie second on the overall total points scored table, and Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso, the highest performing defender, with seven.

Squeezing into the top ten during this busy period, and just about edging out the chasing pack to sit tenth as FA Cup weekend looms, is Piyush Choudhary. A clear preference was displayed by Choudhary, who’s free hit was played in order to include a trio from each of Manchester City, Spurs and the Hammers. Again Son (12) and Sterling (nine) were the premier performers, with inform Manchester United attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard’s goal scoring heroics earning him eight points.

Gameweek 22’s top scorer is bet 365’s Gareth Kennedy, who secured 74 points to fire himself up the table and into 41st. Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who has found form following a tricky start to the season, scored and assisted on his way to 14 points and top scored for the round. Son (12), Sterling (9) and Christian Eriksen (eight) also ably chipping in.

Fantasy managers now face a weekend off, with the FA Cup taking centre stage.
