In 2006, British mathematician Clive Humby prophesied that “data is the new oil”. Humby, drawing upon the industrial works that were enabled due to oil, noted that data would be just as impactful for business and could change processes and decision making forever.
Now, almost two decades later, Humby has been well and truly proven right. Data is at the heartbeat of global industry, and in none more so than igaming.
David Harris, B2B Affiliate Team Manager at ReferOn, chats to SBC News about how the affiliate data management system has expanded its platform over the last 12 months. Stressing the importance of data to the igaming industry, Harris underlines Humby’s predictions and, in typical fashion, provides all the data which reflects the company’s successes. Finally, Harris hints towards further improvements ReferOn will make to its platform in 2025.
SBC News: Now is a great time to reflect on some of your big achievements from last year. In what ways did ReferOn succeed in 2024 and what key facts and figures would you like to share?
David Harris: ReferOn had a great 2024, with the team reaching new heights and achieving significant milestones. We were proud to announce many key partnerships with leading industry figures. Our collaborations saw us expand into new markets and provide our tools to many new local brands.
We experienced significant growth, with increases in all major metrics, including a 183.5% increase in new registrations and a 53.17% increase in number of affiliates. Statistical increases in other specific growth metrics demonstrate the efficacy of our tools in helping operators and affiliate networks meet their objectives.

2024 was an excellent year for the company, and we look forward to continuing this momentum in 2025.
SBC: What operational strategy have you adopted to ensure that 2024 was as successful as it was?
DH: ReferOn shifted its focus to provide more direct and personal customer assistance in 2024. We consider all our clients and partners to be a crucial part of our team, so we established more frequent and valuable communication to ensure everyone is taking advantage of our platform’s vast offerings efficiently. We also helped all clients receive more data insights, which led to enhanced affiliate campaigns, further increasing profits and growth.
Additionally, we developed the ReferOn Insights seminars to educate our users and the public while allowing us to gather customer feedback to improve our platform.
SBC: Looking at this year, you are pivoting your main approach to supporting clients with migration. What particular pain points have you noticed that clients and prospects have when it comes to migrating from other platforms?
DH: Many operators and affiliate networks wish to migrate to platforms that can accommodate their needs, but they may have cautions due to various factors. Common pain points for clients when migrating are that they fear losing their important operational data or experiencing significant downtime during the migration process.
ReferOn has completed over 15 migrations, with 2RBO Affiliates being a notable successful case study. They approached us to migrate to a platform that could support their expansion, and we helped organise their data and completed the migration within a few hours so they could continue normal operations quickly.
SBC: You are also rolling out a number of new developments in Q1 of 2025, including new data flexibility and reporting options. What do these new developments look like and how will they improve the customer experience?
DH: ReferOn’s commitment to innovation and providing users with the best possible tools and solutions is evident in our constant technical updates and QoL improvements. In 2025 Q1, we plan to roll out various new updates that will help our clients maximise their affiliate campaign performance and meet their business objectives.
Some of these updates include introducing live data flexibility for newer brands, improving data reporting to help operators access clean data, tweaking payment processes, and overhauling manager roles and privileges. We will host more ReferOn Insights sessions and conduct more direct consultations with customers throughout the year to monitor new areas of improvement and opportunities for the platform.
SBC: What are the big risks that clients have if their data is not clean and there are fewer reporting options? Ie. Why is it so important for ReferOn to roll out these options?
DH: Customers can miss out on business opportunities with limited reporting functionality and unclean data. These two limitations can mean that users don’t receive the necessary information to make informed and timely business decisions. For example, for an affiliate network looking to expand in a new region, real-time and accurate data is crucial to ensure success.
Additionally, with limited reporting and unclean data, users might not receive accurate information on additional revenue and profit streams, stunting growth.
SBC: What is the importance of elevating the customer experience and introducing features such as cleaner data and optimised payment processes?
DH: Data is key in today’s business environment, and it is crucial to be able to access, organise and analyse it intuitively. By constantly developing our dynamic reporting tools, we empower our users by allowing them to take control of their affiliate traffic and make informed and proactive decisions. Alternatively, optimised payment processes allow users to focus on growth and expanding their networks instead of manually processing rewards and payouts.
SBC: What can readers expect from ReferOn throughout 2025? Are there any more education sessions or more developments in the pipeline?
DH: Apart from the aforementioned technical updates and QoL improvements planned in 2025 Q1, ReferOn has an extensive roadmap for the rest of the year. We’ll increase our focus on migrations and onboarding new clients and will demonstrate to operators and affiliate networks that our processes minimise downtime and are seamless. Our team will continue to develop more educational materials, with many more ReferOn Insights seminars planned throughout the year.
These sessions will also serve as content for our social channels as we aim to establish ourselves as an authoritative figure in the affiliate management and iGaming industries. We’ll continue to identify areas we can improve the platform, and will conduct an in-depth portfolio review to make additions.
