Flutter Entertainment has hired former Spotify executive Mark Shaw as Director of Global Payments Strategy for the NYSE gambling group.
Shaw is recognised as an expert in designing, optimising and operating payment systems of mass market organisations, having formerly led payment divisions for VISA Europe, Barclays and TSB.
Of significance in his tenure as Director of Global Payments for Spotify, Shaw is credited with redeveloping the music streaming apps payment frameworks to enable “user choice billing across 160 markets, delivering significant incremental subscribers in the first 12 months”

Announcing his new role on LinkedIn, Shaw shared that he has been leading Flutter’s payments operations for one month. He also noted that transitioning to the betting industry is a ‘big change from Spotify in many ways’.
Shaw stated, “After leaving Spotify earlier in the year, I’m pleased to say I’ve started a new role as Director of Global Payments Strategy for Flutter Entertainment Plc, the world’s largest online sports betting and igaming operator.”
He added, “As a Group, Flutter operates some of the world’s most innovative, diverse, and distinctive sports betting and gaming brands as part of a globally federated business model – from FanDuel and Paddy Power to Sportsbet, Betfair, PokerStars, Sisal, and more. The scale, growth, and diversity of the business are incredible.”
Guidance for 2024 trading sees Flutter forecast transactional fees and integration costs to be at circa $150m, across all brands.
Shaw expressed his enthusiasm, joining Flutter: “I’m delighted to work with the awesome local payment teams to build the future for payments across the group and enhance the growth and efficiency of the business.”
Reflecting on his career change, he said, “It’s a big change from Spotify in many ways, but new challenges and learning are the only constants in life. It’s time to get stuck in and help ‘Change The Game’.”
