Former Greek state owned gaming operator – OPAP has selected gambling and lotteries software provider GTECH as its online gambling provider. OPAP had created a closed tender with selected pitches to software suppliers 888 Holdings, Openbet , Playtech and GTECH.
GTECH is set to provide the Greek State operator with full digital gambling provisions and player management systems. The account won by GTECH will initially focus on the supply of sports betting and online casino platforms to the Greek operator.
OPAP had operated as the state owned igaming operator previously using GTECH software, in 2013 the Greek Government would sell all shares in its asset to the EMMA DELTA consortium for €625 million. The consortium consists of Lottomatica (owner of GTECH), Czech investor Jiri Smejc and Greek shipbuilding giant the Melissanidis Group.
OPAP management has chosen to continue its strategic partnership with GTECH. The operator wishes to grow its operations in the region focusing on sports betting, it has targeted the 2014 FIFA World Cup as a key growth area, with the Greek national football team participating.
