English professional golfer Marco Penge has been sanctioned by the DP World Tour over betting integrity breaches.
Penge was found to be in violation of the PGA European Tour’s Integrity Programme, which forbids professionals from making any type of bets nor incentivising other people to bet on the results, progress, conduct or anything else regarding professional or elite amateur golf anywhere in the world.
The decision to sanction the Englishman was taken by an Independent Disciplinary Panel, which established that Penge had placed bets on multiple golf events. However, these bets were not in relation to any game nor tournament he’s participated in.
As a punishment, the panel has given him a two-month suspension, wit the potential to increase this in case further Programme breaches are discovered. A fine of £2,000 was also issued.
According to the disciplinary commission, there’s been an immediate admission of the breach and subsequent full cooperation from Penge throughout the investigation, which has been taken into account with the eventual sanction.
Penge’s suspension was enforced on 13 December, 2024, with the golfer able to return to golf duty with the DP World Tour on 13 February next year.
