AFE joins DGOF to safeguard betting integrity in Spain

Spain’s General Directorate of Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has added the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) to the Global Research Service for the monitoring of betting integrity.

By signing the agreement, AFE can now utilise in-depth data flows to submit information about instances of suspicious bets placed on various sporting events.

The DGOJ further clarified that the service is compliant under Law 13/2011 of the regulation of gaming, which aims to strengthen the fight against fraud in the sports betting market and prevent the manipulation of betting competitions.

Earlier last year, DGOJ’s efforts to protect the values of fair competition were also highlighted by Spain’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs in a report which showed that 30 online gambling firms were fined in the first half of 2023 for a total of €71m.

A list detailing the fines showed that 14 of the operators who committed the ‘most serious infractions’ were fined €5m each and given a suspension for two years – the majority of which were headquartered in Curaçao.

The remaining 16 fines were handed to operators licensed under Spanish regulations, ranging between €25,000 and €105,000 for various compliance shortcomings. AFE joins DGOF to safeguard betting integrity in Spain
