Interwetten Speaker Stefan Sulzbacher ‘ends race in promising position’

Stefan Sulzbacher, Speaker of the Board of multinational European betting operator Interwetten Group, has vacated his position.

Updating the industry in a LinkedIn post, Sulzbacher used a motor racing analogy, explaining that he had been ‘ordered to the pits by the race control’ after ‘thirty months of high-speed racing’.

However, he asserted that after a two year and seven month tenure with the company, he exits the European sports betting race in ‘promising positions’.

“In the last 30 months I was allowed to get to know great employees and I had the privilege to expand this team with great minds and characters to an even greater team!,” Sulzbacher said.

“With this ‘High Performance Team’ it was possible to initiate a successful transformation process in a real traditional company.”

Reflecting on his career with the firm, Sulzbacher’s main observation of Interwetten’s achievements in recent years was the sportsbook and igaming operator’s range of partnerships.

Significantly expanding its visibility in international sports, the firm has signed notably sponsorship agreements with the likes of Liverpool FC, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and NHL.

The latter agreements focused on Interwetten’s two core markets of Germany and Austria, where the group was initially founded, although it now coordinates its international operations from a Malta headquarters.

At the time of the Liverpool deal, Sulzbacher explained that the firm was adopting a marketing strategy of pursuing ‘long term partnerships and corporations with international reputation’.

Continuing his Linkedin post, Sulzbacher added: “I was able to initiate a lasting change with our partners in the area of sports sponsorship. Because if you want to be a top brand, you also have to cooperate with top brands: NHL, FC Liverpool, Gladbach, DFB, PDC and PDC Europe, ÖSV, DSV, Admira and FUPA.”

Outside of sports, the outgoing Speaker noted partnerships in other areas, particularly with media companies such as the Axel Springer DE publishing house and other outlets, as well as ‘high performance’ agencies Leaders2, AANDRS, Lobeco, kraftwerk and weseo.

These agreements have ensured that Interwetten ‘had the perfect partners’ for marketing measures and IT tools to support its international business activity, Sulzbacher emphasised.

Concluding his statement, he said: “Many thanks also to Lothar Matthäus, Peter Stöger, Michael Rösch and also the Freekickerz, who were much more than just testimonials for us, but brand ambassadors, true experts and actually family members.

“It was outstanding to work with you. Thank you very much for your support, Stefan!”
