Abios esports betting review shines a guiding light for the year ahead

Abios, the data and odds provider subsidiary of Kambi, has published a review of esports betting, drawing on data from the Kambi network. Tracking the market’s latest developments, it highlights the most popular esports titles, leagues and teams based on betting turnover in 2022.

The piece, said the firm, delivers insights into how the esports landscape has developed and provides a “guiding light for the year ahead”.

Using the Kambi network data, Abios has gauged some key trends that it predicts will likely continue to affect the esports betting landscape in 2023. Among them is the dominance of CS:GO. “Its leagues and teams have been most popular on the Kambi network based on the betting turnover in 2022,” said the company.

The review shows that Intel Extreme Masters, which features iconic CS:GO events such as IEM Katowice, IEM Dallas and IEM Cologne took the top spot among leagues, followed by ESL Pro League and BLAST Premier events. Together, they encompass most of the tier 1 CS:GO scene.

CS:GO sees equal dominance in the most popular teams across the network. While most teams have rosters in several games, FaZe Clan and NAVI, who hold the top spots, are most prominent in CS:GO and are currently ranked best in the world according to BLAST Premier World Leaderboard.

While G2 Esports, which comes in third, has impressive rosters in VALORANT and League of Legends, among other games, their performance in CS:GO has solidified their spot as a fan favourite to win in terms of betting turnover.

Lastly, Abios noted that it has seen an increase in live betting in esports on the Kambi platform from 2021, where bettors seem to prefer live action to pre-match offers.

Marketing Manager Kristina Skogvard explained: “Esports is becoming increasingly prevalent among many sportsbooks and we don’t believe it will slow down anytime soon. As such, we’re happy to provide further insights into the esports betting market. While older titles such as CS:GO still reigns supreme, we’ve seen increasing growth in VALORANT, Riot Games’ first-person shooter.

“The game has seen similar viewership numbers to tier 1 CS:GO tournaments. Moreover, given the increased amount of content during 2023, it might very well solidify its spot as one of the most prominent esports.”
