Wayne Stevenson ends his five-year tenure at Low6

Wayne Stevenson, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Regulated Activities at Low6, has announced that he is vacating his position.

Confirming the end of his five-year tenure at the sports gamification and fantasy platform provider on Linkedin, Stevenson noted that some ‘will already be aware that I have left Low6’.

Stevenson co-founded the company in 2017 alongside Jamie Mitchell, with whom he served as Co-CEO for two years until assuming his position as MD of Regulated Activities with the free-to-play (FTP) developer in January 2019.

“Some of you will already be aware that I have left Low6. It is never easy leaving a company that I Co-Founded with Jamie Mitchell,” Stevenson explained on LinkedIn.

“It has been my life for the last five years building the business from an idea, creating an award-winning company in the process.”

Low6 has experienced substantial commercial growth since its inception in 2017, having launched its UltimateFan product and entered into agreements with a range of sports organisations from its Birmingham headquarters.

Transatlantic expansion was a notable goal for the company moving into 2022, with the firm securing $5 million via a funding round in late January to support a public listing in the US, building on a previous £3.3 million funding round in 2020.

Speaking to SBC last year, Stevenson – along with Mitchell and Low6 CMO Josh Turk outlined progression for the UltiamteFan offering, which combines pack openings, fantasy football and NFTs.

Targeting an audience of millennial and Gen Z sports fans, Low6 has cited the use of influencer marketing as key to the success of UltimateFan – which functions as a blockchain marketplace where players can purchase and sell ‘player cards’ which can be used in any Low6 fantasy game.

Discussing the firm’s sporting connections in his departure post, Stevenson continued: “I have so many fond memories which include completing the PDC World Darts deal with Barry Hearn and Matthew Porter at Alexandra Palace and the deal with the UFC and Nick Smith.

“These were the contracts that really helped to build a global reputation where deals with the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour golf followed along with US Franchises Cincinnati Bengals Detroit Pistons Jacksonville Jaguars, also the LEARFIELD College deal and YinzCam, Inc. deal with Priya Narasimhan.

“One of the things I love about business is the network of friends that you create not just in the UK but around the world and the impact they have on you as an individual, you never stop learning and nearly every day brings a new challenge.”

In addition to UltiamteFan, Low6 has also found success for its Picks series of products, in which players must answer questions about the outcomes of a tournament to accumulate points and move up a leaderboard.

The company has launched the offering with a range of sports organisations, including the PGA European Tour, the UFC and Premier League club fan TV channels such as Toffee TV, AFTV, The United Stand, George Benson and Redmen TV.

Stevenson concluded: “Last of all I’d like to thank Jamie Mitchell. What a journey it has been, the sleepless nights in the early days with the pressures of a startup, the trips including Seville and Sofia, the successes, the challenges and the friendship we have built.

“The company would never be what it is today without you. I wish you and Low6 all the success in the future. I’m on garden leave now until the end of July enjoying some downtime and really looking forward to the next challenge.”
