International sports betting operator Betway has secured the title sponsorship of South Africa’s T20 Challenge Twenty20 cricket tournament.
This is an expansion of the operator’s already extensive presence in South African domestic cricket, acting as a sponsor of all Proteas Tests and One Day International series fixtures held in the country.
“We are extremely happy to be announcing our title sponsorship of the Betway T20 Challenge. It enforces our strong commitment to cricket in South Africa and we look forward to being part of this exciting tournament,” said Paul Adkins, Betway’s Marketing and Operations Director.
Under the terms of the agreement, the tournament will be branded as the Betway T20 Challenge. The ten-day competition will begin on 19 February and culminate on 28 February.
It was first initiated last year as a round-robin replacement for the white-ball Mzansi Super League, which was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cricket South Africa Acting Chief Executive Officer, Pholetsi Moseki, added: “They are already part of our family with their association with Test and ODI cricket and this new agreement just reinforces our partnership with them.
“I have no doubt that the Betway T20 Challenge will prove to be a huge hit. We have all our Proteas playing and they are mixed amongst some of the finest cricketers in the country, so it is a win-win situation for everyone.”
Betway has developed a strong presence in the country in recent years, having secured a partnership with Golden Bridge in April 2020, via its regional brand licensee Headsquare.
Last month the operator also strengthened its market position in Brazil via an agreement with the ‘Made in Brazil’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) team, also known as ‘MIBR,’ one of the country’s most popular esports outfits.
