Mozzartbet sets sail in South America taking over Meridianbet Colombia

Mozzartbet Serbia’s leading bookmaker has entered the South American sportsbook market, acquiring the online operating unit of Meridian Gaming Colombia SAS – the Colombian market subsidiary Meridian Gaming Ltd.

The acquisition forms part of Mozzartbet’s ongoing ‘internationalization strategy’ with the Serbian betting group securing direct entry within Colombia’s regulated online gambling marketplace taking over the domain.

Stating its new market intent, Mozzartbet management underlined that its new sportsbook property would be supported by an ‘ambitious investment plan’, with the aim of placing its new brand at the forefront of the Colombian marketplace.

Speaking to SBCNoticias, Mozzartbet Colombian country manager Nebojša Rako stated that the Serbian bookmaker aims to secure an operating presence ‘in at least three continents.

Mozzartbet becomes the latest European operator to launch a Colombian sportsbook property following Spanish incumbents Sportium, Codere and Grupo EGASA ( joining a crowded Colombian betting scene.

Further Colombian market developments, saw Betsson AB announce in its interim statement that it had acquired a 70% stake in, as the Stockholm-listed operator seeks to build its South American regulated market profile, following its acquisition of Brazilian licensed racebook Suaposta in 2019.

“Following the first quarter of 2020 we took an important step to strengthen our position in the region, by acquiring 70% of Colbet. This will allow us to access the online market for casinos and sports betting in Colombia ”said Betsson’s CEO, Pontus Lindwall.
