Betfred lands title sponsorship of Wilder vs Fury rematch

Betfred has been announced as the official sponsor of this weekend’s undisputed heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury (Saturday 22 February).

The Las Vegas showdown takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena and is available on pay-per-view on BT Sport Box Office for UK audiences, as  Betfred marketing secures the title sponsorship to what many anticipate will be this year’s biggest boxing clash.

Betfred boss and founder Fred Done stated: “I’m delighted to be a sponsor of the most anticipated fight of the year and if Wilder v Fury II is anything like the first fight we are in for a superb night.”

Betfred’s decision to sponsor the fight continues the brand’s expansion into the U.S market since the legalisation of sports betting in the country.

The UK based bookmaker opened its first US sportsbook at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort in Iowa and has recently agreed deals with both Wind Creek Bethlehem for Pennsylvania’s sports betting operations, and Saratoga Casino for sports betting undertakings in Colorado.

The gambling firm continues to develop its sponsorship portfolio, across a variety of sports including the World Snooker Championship, the British Masters, World Matchplay Darts, Rugby League’s Super League and Royal Ascot.

Tom Brown, the president of TGB Promotions and Bob Arum, chairman of Top Rank, issued a joint statement: “We’re happy to have Betfred as an official sponsor for the highly anticipated Wilder vs. Fury II rematch on February 22.

“This is a 50-50 fight for the heavyweight championship of the world and we’re sure that fans all around the globe will be watching to see all of the drama unfold.”

Wilder and Fury’s 2018 spectacle ended in a split decision draw and since the fight, fans and media have eagerly waited for the rematch.

The news also follows Betfred’s recent enhancement in the UK market as the company extended its contract Playtech BGT Sports, continuing to supply the betting firm’s self-service betting terminals.
