Betfair Politics has informed that the odds on Donald Trump departing/resigning from office have plummeted following the US President’s controversial decision to sack FBI Director General James Comey.
Updating US political markets, Betfair Politics has now priced Donald Trump to leave office before the end of his first term at ‘evens money’ (50% Chance).
Following the shock decision to fire Director Comey, the Trump administration has been engulfed by rumours and speculation. US political commentators have stated that the sacking of Comey, represents President Trump’s most controversial action to date.
The FBI Director had been put in charge of investigating Russian interference on the US 2016 Election, and whether Trump campaign associates had colluded with Soviet counterparts.
Following the news, Betfair informs that political punters are now wagering on Trump’s ‘exit date’, with the bookmaker offering prices of 11/2 on a 2017 departure, and 5/1 on The Donald exiting office in 2018 or 2019.
Betfair spokesperson, Naomi Totten, said: “Nearly 2,000 bets have been placed on the President to leave in 2017 in the ‘Trump exit date’ market since James Comey’s dismissal on Tuesday, forcing the odds in from 9/1 to 3/1 this morning, although there has been a slight drift back to 11/2.
“There have also been several sizeable bets on the market for Trump to leave before the end of his first term, with one customer confidently placing £100k on the President not making it to 2020. ‘Yes’ had been trading at 15/8 prior to the Comey sacking breaking but is now an even money shot.”
