Spiffx – In-Play backing for the top four on the road

Mane, SpiffxOn a weekend which saw the top four teams record comfortable away victories, it was no surprise to see that a huge majority of punters on Spiffx backed the favourites in-play.

However, it was a surprise that 38.71% of players favoured a Sunderland win over Arsenal in the pre-play market. Arsene Wenger’s side are unbeaten since an opening day 4-3 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, whilst David Moyes’ Black Cats went into the game on the verge of equalling the worst ever start to a Premier League campaign. Evidently, a lot of these players ‘jumped ship’ as the game progressed, with the Gunners leading as early as the 19th minute.

Similarly, 97.64% of Spiffx punters backed Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace on the in-play market. The Reds were relentless in attack throughout the match, with the Eagles only staying in touch after a pair of defensive mistakes from Dejan Lovren. The big difference here is that just 9.09% backed the home side in the pre-play market, which is a bit surprising considering Palace are well set in mid-table and had beaten Liverpool in three of the previous four league meetings.

Finally, we were shocked to see that only 7.69% of Spiffx punters backed Southampton to beat Chelsea on the pre-play market. Claude Puel’s side went into the match unbeaten in the last five, and had only conceded twice during that period. The Saints reaffirmed their quality this week by coming from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 in the Europa League. The high support for the Blues in-play can be explained by the early goal at St Mary’s, scored by an in-form Eden Hazard.
