After Sunday’s revelation that Anthony Joshua will challenge Charles Martin for the IBF world heavyweight title, Betfair customers are anticipating more than just a belt for the Brit backing him into 15/2 favourite for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2016.
Colm Rock, Novelties Trader for Betfair, said: “Andy Murray had been favourite to win this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award after picking up the accolade for 2015, but Anthony Joshua has now knocked the Scot off the top spot. After announcing he will be taking on Charles Martin in his first world title bid, customers have backed the loveable giant from 12/1 to 15/2 favourite.”
He added: “Rio Gold medal favourite, Jessica Ennis-Hill has also been well-supported but with the Olympics still a while off and rumours of a potential boycott due to the dangers posed to women by the Zika virus, she is now 10/1 third favourite for the award.”
The 2015 Sports Personality of the Year award was won by Andy Murray who became only the fourth person to have won the award twice. Rugby league veteran Kevin Sinfield finished second, whilst Jessica Ennis-Hill came in third.
