William Hill has alerted the media that it has received a substantial sized bet on Leeds actor Sam Riley becoming the eighth James Bond (Yes…SBC includes David Niven as a Bond!).
The bookmaker revealed that a punter had placed a large sum backing Riley to replace Daniel Craig as 007 at 50/1. The bookmaker detailed that if the punter was correct he would collect a four-figure sum.
William Hill further revealed that it only allowed the punter to place two thirds of his intended bet, since it feared that the customer may have some form of insider knowledge on the market.
Following the wager, William Hill immediately slashed the odds on Riley becoming the next Bond to 12/1.
William Hill’s trading team were surprised at the wager, since Daniel Craig has yet to officially confirm that he has quit the role. Furthermore, although talented, Riley is still a relative unknown to UK and international audiences.
James Bond Spectre amassed a £42 million box office opening week in the UK, breaking the previous record set by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Amid speculation of Craig leaving the Bond franchise, the movie’s producers stated that Craig was still their preferred choice.
