Venture interests in the esports wagering market continues to ramp up with the announcement that wagering platform Unikrn has raised $7 million (£4.5 million) investment.
Technology news sources report that the venture fund was led by Binary Capital, taking Unikrn (pronounced ‘unicorn’) total raised investment to date to $10 million.
The wagering platform had previously received funding from US technology billionaire Mark Cuban, owner of NBA franchise the Dallas Mavericks.
Unikrn’s esports wagering platform allows players to place bets on competitive gaming matches, on popular titles which include League of Legends, Dota 2 and Starcraft 2.
esports wagering operators have received increased interest for numerous companies looking to cash in on the growing popularity of the competitive gaming scene.
Unikrn has developed its wagering capabilities in partnership with Tabcorp subsidiary Luxbet. The start-up is targeting fast growth in US, Australia and European markets.
Unikrn was founded by ex-Microsoft executive Rahul Sood and PC gaming veteran Karl Flores.
Sood said in a statement that working with the founders of Binary Capital has been a great experience, and the funding will help the company realize its “vision of bringing safe and legal wagering on esports to consumers around the world.”
