European igaming and sports betting operator Unibet has appointed former Centrebet Head of Operations Peter Staunton as General Manager for its Australian business division, as the operator looks to expand its presence in the burgeoning but competitive Australian igaming market.
Industry news source EGR Magazine reported that Staunton had begun his role at Unibet Australia last week, replacing outgoing GM Patrik Maximilian Andersson who returns to the operators London headquarters.
Staunton brings a deep knowledge of the Australian gambling market to the operator, having worked in senior operational positions for Sportingbet Austrlia, Centrebet and Tabcorp. Staunton is also a non-executive director of Australian online betting syndicate the Punt Club.
Unibet had entered the Australian igaming market in 2012 with the £14 million acquisition of bookmaker Betchoice The operator and its management will be hoping to see uplift in the performance of its Australian operations. In 2014 Unibet CEO Henrik Tjärnström had described the company’s Australian division as having been in “hibernation” since Unibet first entered the market
