French igaming operator Winamax has announced plans to support its French online poker room with the proposed launch of a Winamax sportsbook. The operator will look to diversify its gaming portfolio and improve company revenues by broadening its product range and services to include online sports betting for French igaming customers.

The decision to launch a new sportsbook was undertaken by managing directors Alexandre Roos and Christophe Schaaming, who assumed control of company operations from Canel Frichet in September 2013. Winamax are reported to be currently in the process of hiring new staff for its sports betting division.

The French sports betting market, has witnessed a 22% year on year increase as reported by French gaming legislator – ARJEL. However the region has seen a decline in its poker market. Winamax decision will look to capitalise on sports betting’s growth within the region.

Winamax stated that it would reveal further plans on its sports betting operations in the following months.
