Brazil’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) has introduced mandatory on-site inspections as part of the new regime with the latest introduction of Ordinance 1,125.
As reported by SBC Noticias, the bill will regulate and supervise the activity of licence holders on Brazilian soil, with new measures including in-person visits of company HQs.
Betting operators will start being subjected to these visits from January 2025 onwards, with data from their websites also being processed by SPA through the newly-established Betting Management System (SIGAP).
Such inspections could occur at both licenced and unlicenced HQs, with SPA reserving the right to act with the state, district and federal police and the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of the states and the Union.
SIGAP was also part of the previous Ordinance 1,231, which focused on the prevention of illegal gambling.
Operators must notify the regulator of any cases where match-fixing and manipulation of results is suspected within five business days through SIGAP.
If irregularities are detected, an investigation may be initiated, and if there is evidence of fraud, SPA must then notify the competent bodies so that further measures can be taken.
