Cheltenham Festival will be incorporating a new system for dynamic bets through a partnership between Racecourse Media Group (RMG) and Playtech Sports.
The system will allow players to place their bets as the races occur in real time. In-play betting will be available in almost 16,000 Self Service Betting Terminals (SSBTs) across Great Britain and Ireland.
Playtech Sports Managing Director, Lee Drabwell, highlighted: “This is a major step forward in enhancing the betting shop experience by further digitalising betting opportunities through SSBTs.”
Playtech’s SSBTs are available in all Betfred, BoyleSports and Paddy Power shops, plus all independent betting shops.
Meanwhile, RMG also partnered with Quantum Leap Solutions and Pythia Sports in launching the new service.
Working with Quantum Leap focused on the design and navigation elements of the system, whilst Pythia Sports managed pricing features.
“Our collaboration with RMG, Pythia, and QLS has elevated and enhanced the in-shop racing experience,” Drabwell added. “With exciting innovations on the horizon, we are optimistic about the bright future this presents for both operators and customers.”
The service will launch with win-only markets initially, however the partners have promised more bet types in the future.
“The roll-out of in-play betting on RMG content is another significant step forward for driving revenues and engagement in the sport in betting shops in Britain and Ireland,” noted Nick Mills, RMG CEO.
“Early indications are that in-play is already proving popular, with in-play stakes in the independent shops accounting for nearly 10% of SSBT turnover on RMG content. We will work closely with our partners at Playtech, QLS and Pythia to continue to innovate and evolve the SSBT product.”
This year, Cheltenham Festival is taking place from Tuesday 11 March to Friday 14 March.
