Allwyn UK has teamed up with Aldi to offer The National Lottery at all self-checkouts across its UK stores.
The partnership is detailed as a key upgrade to the National Lottery’s retail system. Aldi stores will be among the first to launch the new draw games purchases via self-checkout touchscreens monitors.
Recognised as the UK’s fastest-growing supermarket, Aldi stores have sold National Lottery tickets since 2021.
Delivering new consumer-led functionalities to the National Lottery, Allwyn will begin its upgrade to Aldi self-checkout touchscreens, operating across more than 1,050 UK stores.
Self-checkout touchscreen purchases will be available for the National Lottery draw games, including Lucky Dip, EuroMillions, Thunderball, and Set For Life.
Users age verification check will be carried out by an Aldi colleague before shoppers can complete their purchase.
Jenny Blogg, Operations Director at Allwyn, said: “As we continue on our retail transformation journey – adapting our offering for a changing retail landscape and new-look stores – we’re delighted to be expanding our partnership with Aldi.
“This will ultimately make The National Lottery available at every single touchpoint in Aldi’s customer journey, helping us to reach even more players. So, however Aldi customers choose to shop – whether at the main tills or via self-checkout – they’ll always have the option to pick up a National Lottery game. This project has been a massive effort by the teams at both Allwyn and Aldi, and my sincere thanks must go to everyone involved.”
Allwyn begins year two of its stewardship of the National Lottery, testing new retail and consumer-led innovations.
Supported by key systems partner Scientific Games, in February, Allwyn tested a new retail environment for its forthcoming SCiQ® retail system at the ASDA store in Ashton-under-Lyne, Manchester.
The live environment trial showcased a new high-tech and ID-proof dispenser for National Lottery scratchcards.
Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “We’re always looking for ways to improve the shopping experience for our customers, which is why we’ve made it even easier to enter The National Lottery while picking up essentials at our self-checkouts.
“As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, our shoppers know they’ll always find amazing value at Aldi, but we hope some lucky customers manage to find the winning numbers at our self-checkouts too.”
