Canadian industry body, the Responsible Gambling Commission (RGC), has appointed Sarah McCarthy as its new Chief Executive Officer.
McCarthy’s term will begin on 6 January 2025. She brings along a total of 15 years of collaborative executive experience, having led various teams through innovation development and social impact growth.
Her most recent role was that of a Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at the Rick Hansen Foundation, where she worked on strategic and operational planning, program implementation, and the development of other key business strategies.
Under her leadership, the foundation launched the RHF Accessibility Certification, which has so far rated around 2,000 buildings based on its standard, and has trained over 2,600 staff to promote inclusivity across various sectors.
Before joining the Rick Hansen Foundation, she was the Executive Director at the International Society for Nurses in Cancer Care.
McCarthy takes over the CEO role at RGC from Shelley White, who has been at the helm of the organisation for over seven years.
Yvon Lemire, Board Chair of the Responsible Gambling Council, commented: “Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Sarah in her new role. We look forward to her contributions and leadership in achieving our strategic objectives and furthering our mission.
“As Sarah McCarthy steps into her new role as CEO, we pause to honour and express our profound gratitude to Shelley White for her distinguished tenure at the Responsible Gambling Council. Shelley’s leadership has been transformative, steering the RGC through significant initiatives that have expanded our reach and deepened our impact.
“Her strategic foresight was instrumental in launching groundbreaking programs that have set industry standards in responsible gambling.”
