The Gambling Authority of Denmark, Spillemyndigheden, has launched consultations into the new supplier licence certification process coming up in 2025.
Relevant shareholders, particularly betting and igaming providers, are free to submit their responses until 19 August through a specially designated submission form on Spillemyndigheden’s website.
According to the regulator, the updated system will ensure that more robust market security and player protection standards are in place in Denmark – by providing a clearer understanding of the requirements licence holders and game suppliers should abide by.
One of the key changes to the list of rules evens out the responsibilities shared between licence holders and game suppliers by requiring the latter to have their own licence and file reports with Spillemyndigheden – with the deadline for such reports brought down to one month compared to the two currently in use.
With a licence of its own a supplier will no longer have to seek approval from the licence holder to make system changes. However, Spillemyndigheden has still included a new section that requires stronger a business link between both ends to ensure that the system changes do not interfere with the functionality of the games nor the platforms.
Elsewhere, the regulator could postpone approval for RNG certification by up to a month in cases where it finds the need to undertake a more comprehensive analysis and testing of the mechanics in place.
It is expected that Spillemyndigheden will reveal the final version of the amendments by the end of this year, with the new certification process likely to be enforced on 1 January, 2025.
