Denmark’s state-owned operator, Danske Spil, has seen a rise of 2.5% YoY in GGR for the first quarter of 2025.
Total GGR stood at DKK 1.3bn (£149m), which constituted an increase of DKK 32m compared to the DKK 1.2bn in Q1 2024. The growth was driven by Danske Spil’s lottery products, with higher YoY turnover recorded across all of its three flagship lottery subsidiaries.
Here is revenue broken down by brands:
Danske Lotteri Spil: DKK 733m (Q1’24: DKK 711m)
Danske Licens Spil: DKK 396m (Q1’24: DKK 393m)
Det Danske Klasselotteri: DKK 75m (Q1’24: DKK 64m).
Danske Licens Spil, launched by Danske Spil Group to compete in the regulated market as a licence holder, saw an increase of DKK 3m in GGR due to sports games and iGaming.
The DKK 11m more in GGR realised by Det Danske Klasselotteri, which finds its roots back to 1753, reflected a change to its “15 is magic” product in Q4 2024.
Elite Gaming – Danske Spil’s retail slots arm – saw a slight decline YoY, raking in a total of DKK 71m (Q1’24: DKK 75m).
Despite overall GGR tailwinds, reported total income after tax for Q1’25 was DKK 500m, or DKK 10m lower than the previous corresponding period. The discrepancy comes from the 2024 sale of Swush, a real-time fantasy sports company.
While the sale generated an additional DKK 27m in income for the first quarter of 2024, it translated to a decrease in financial items at the start of this year.
Signing off the report, Danske Spil’s leadership asserted that the company remains committed to facilitating safer play initiatives and countering problem gambling.
One such project is the ‘Play with care’ campaign, which utilises Danske Spil’s online platform as a hub that provides detailed information on the importance of healthy gambling habits, with insights from a variety of healthcare experts and people with lived experiences.
