Spillemyndigheden, the Gambling Authority of Denmark, has reported a 1.4% increase in total gambling expenditure for March 2025, as online casino activity continues to lead the market.
Revenue from online casino operations rose by 6.4% compared to March 2024, maintaining the positive growth trend observed in previous months.
A shift in consumer behaviour towards digital platforms contributed to declines in revenue from betting, gaming machines, and land-based casinos, while online casino activity continued to expand.
The regulator introduced land-based bingo as an independent reporting category in March 2025. New regulations, which came into effect on 1 January 2025, enabled licensed operators to offer commercial bingo services under Denmark’s expanded regulatory framework. Charitable bingo remains categorised within the lottery segment.
The Danish Gambling Authority also published its annual report, The Gambling Market in Numbers 2024, presenting performance data from the country’s regulated gambling industry. Total gambling expenditure in 2024 reached DKK 11bn (£1.26bn), marking a 5.6% increase on the previous year.
The channelisation rate, which measures the share of gambling activity attracted via licensed operators, reached 91.5% in 2024 — up 0.7% from 2023. Denmark now ranks fifth globally in terms of regulated online gambling market share.
The report analysed betting trends during UEFA Men’s Euro 2024 matches, noting increased wagering when Denmark played. It also reviewed the country’s responsible gambling measures, including the ROFUS self-exclusion system and the StopSpillet helpline.
The Danish government has introduced new licensing requirements for suppliers, with compliance required by July 2025. Online casino accounted for nearly half of the DKK 7.27bn in gross gaming revenue reported for 2024. Gaming machines were the only major vertical to record a year-on-year decline.
