Representatives from Peru’s League 1 club Los Chankas have made accusations about a potential match-fixing incident in a league match.
On social media, the club’s management alleged that their 1-0 loss to Atlético Grau in a recent match from the Liga 1 Te Apuesto has caused concerns over a potential pre-game settlement agreement.
The post said: “Unfortunately, we are obliged to communicate that as leaders, we receive information related to illicit betting activities that could have affected the results of the match.
“The unexpected defeat of our club coincides with the information we receive. Considering that in the last three consecutive matches we have experienced comebacks against, all in the second half, we are even more concerned about the situation.”
Atlético Grau fired back by saying that they “categorically rejected any implication on our part on the aforementioned accusations”.
The club further added that the accusations are presented “without any evidence”, and that “the idea of participating in illicit activities goes against the fundamental principles and the sporting spirit”.
Expectations are that a match-fixing probe into the matter will follow shortly led by the Office of Ethics and Integrity of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) and the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), with Los Chankas insisting that “the corresponding investigations identify and sanction the players involved”.
