Norsk Tipping appoints Tonje Sagstuen as acting CEO

The Norwegian government has confirmed the appointment of Tonje Sagstuen as the acting CEO of Norsk Tipping.

Sagstuen will replace Thor Gjermund Eriksen, who is set to leave Norway’s gambling and lotteries monopoly at the end of this month.

During H1 trading, Eriksen announced his acceptance of the role of Managing Director at Bane NOR, Norway’s state-owned rail network firm.

Subsequently, Norsk Tipping announced that Sagstuen would assume acting leadership duties from 1 September until a permanent replacement for Eriksen is found.

A former Olympian, Sagstuen represented Norway’s handball team in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. She has been part of the Norsk Tipping executive team since 2014. In her capacity, Sagstuen has spearheaded the development of Norsk Tipping’s social responsibility initiatives and societal projects.

The search for Norsk Tipping’s permanent CEO is underway, led by company chair Sylvia Brustad. Brustad remarked: “I am pleased that Tonje has agreed to lead the company until a new managing director is appointed.”

In 2023, the Norwegian government reaffirmed its support for Norsk Tipping as the sole organisation authorised to offer gambling services to its citizens.

The next CEO of Norsk Tipping will have the responsibility of overseeing the monopoly’s revamped operational framework to improve safer gambling protections and advertising exposure to younger audiences.

The changes have been ordered by Norway’s Ministry of Culture and Diversity overseeing Norsk Tipping funding responsibilities.
